This artwork, titled "A Kind of Blue-Green", is located in the lobby of the Hitchner Hall Biology Building at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. This building is devoted to research in Biology and Food Sciences. The title of the artwork is a reference to the color palette used in the artwork, the two most common colors in the biologic-natural world, the importance of blue-green algae to life on the planet, and a favorite collection of music, "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis. Around the abstract "paintings" that comprise the center of the piece is a border that incorporates names of famous biologists from the state of Maine. Also in the border are Latin names of plants and animals that are important to the economy of Maine and researched at the University. This artwork was selected in a limited design competition and funded by the Maine Arts Commission.
